Sparkling Wine

History and significance

See Sparkling Wines section in Anuva Wine Store. Sparkling wine was first documented in 1531 in France.  Sparkling wines are typically white or rose wines with carbon dioxide bubbles to give the drink its fizz. Many sparkling wines are often blended white wines, typically Chardonnay (see Chardonnay in White Wine Varietals section). Rose sparkling wine is wine made from grapes that have soaked in their marc for a short period of time in order to acquire a pink tint. Making sparkling wine is similar to making white wine (or rose wine depending the type of sparkling wine) until secondary fermentation occurs (see Winemaking Practices section).

Typicity

Sparkling wine’s carbonation sets it apart from other white wines. Many sparkling wines have sugar added to them after fermentation. Sparkling wine is a common drink with appetizers and lighter foods—though very sweet sparkling wines can be dessert wines.
