Sauvignon Blanc
History and significance
See Sauvignon Blanc Wine section in Anuva Wine Store. Sauvignon Blanc, the other parent of the (red wine) Cabernet Sauvignon varietal, hails from the Loire and Bordeaux regions of France. Known for making extremely dry wines, Sauvignon Blanc thrives in cooler climates that are sunny, but not hot, with a range of soil types. The Sauvignon Blanc varietal is often used alone but also mixes well with the Semillon varietal. It creates an excellent dessert wine after undergoing the natural noble rot process.
Grown in..
Sauvignon Blanc is cultivated successfully not only in France, but also in New Zealand, California, Argentina, and Chile. Sauvignon Blanc’s grapes grow favorably in the Lujan de Cuyo, Junin, and Maipu regions in Mendoza where there are 640 hectares and in San Juan where there are 235 hectares.
Typicity
Sauvignon Blanc is known as a crisp and fresh wine with excellent acidity. Common flavors include grass, mineral, grapefruit, and lime; however, tropical fruit and gooseberries are also common descriptors. Sauvignon Blanc can have faint, spicy tangs. Argentine Sauvignon Blanc tastes especially of passion fruit.
