Diego Maradona

Argentina’s football icon, Diego Maradona, played for the Argentine Juniors before he was even sixteen, for the Boca Juniors when he was 21, internationally for Barcelona and Naples, and for the Argentina National team, aiding in the 1986 World Cup victory.

He now manages Argentina’s national team, although he has no previous managing experience, and also participates in some football charity matches. There is controversy over his blunt attitude used with other sport’s management and his previous drug use.

Though he was suspended from playing in 1991 for 15 months and was sent home from the 1994 World Cup in the United States due to drug use only to continue using drugs until 2005, Maradona is still popular with many people throughout Argentina and the world. In 2003, the Argentine Juniors named their stadium after Maradona.
