Demographics

The city of Buenos Aires has a population of about 3 million, while 14 million inhabitants live in the Buenos Aires metropolitan area. One in three Argentineans call Buenos Aires or its surrounding area home.  About 9 million of Buenos Aires’ inhabitants reside in apartments, and throughout the district, 20% live below the poverty line, which for a family of four is less than 1,000 pesos ($260 USD) a month (http://www.helpargentina.org/es/node/2919). Many Argentineans have strong European roots mostly from Italy, Spain, and Germany. There are large Armenian, Lebanese, and Syrian populations in Buenos Aires, and recently, an arrival of Chinese immigrants. Roughly 175,000 people of Jewish descent reside in Buenos Aires—the most in all of Latin America and the thirteenth highest population of concentrated Jews in cities in the world (http://www.simpletoremember.com/vitals/world-jewish-population.htm).
