Argentina is the 8th Largest Country in the World
Unique to Argentina is its immensity. Argentina’s area is huge, creating slightly different terroirs along the different latitudes—which extend from the 22nd to 42nd southern parallels. The vast differences in geography create different wines all within one country. Other world wine regions, such as Italy or South Africa, have very similar climates with similar latitudes creating the same wines time after time. Argentina on the other hand can produce two different Torrontes wines—one from Salta in northern Argentina (latitude 24° 48' S) and one from Rio Negro (latitude 40° 49' S) in Patagonia.
Argentina’s geographical size and relatively sparse population in the interior also make the growth potential for production volume and planting staggeringly large.
