Typical Argentine Food

Mostly found in Northern Argentina, typical “Argentine” food changes slightly to a more spicy, Andean influenced cuisine that extends through Northern Argentina, Bolivia, and Paraguay (both neighboring countries to Argentina). Characteristic food fare of the north comprises empanadas saltenas (empanadasfrom the North), tamales (cornmeal mixed with cheese, meat, and/or vegetables and steamed in a corn husk), humitas (steamed cornmeal dough with corn and sometimes onion or cheese all in a corn husk), and locro (a stew of corn, beans and meat).

Rather than a very Spanish and Italian influenced cuisine in the Buenos Aires Province, classic Argentine food encompasses more of the crops native to South America, such as potatoes, quinoa, avocados, chili peppers, and tomatoes. Some good restaurants in Buenos Aires to try typical Argentine cuisine include Las Cholas in Las Canitas (see Las Canitas in Buenos Aires section), Cumana in Recoleta (see Recoleta in Buenos Aires section), or Na Serapia in Palermo (see Palermo in Buenos Aires section)
