Common Appetizers and Snack Foods
A common appetizer or snack food in Argentina and its neighboring countries, empanadas are small portions of meats, cheese, and/or vegetables in pastry-like bread made of wheat flour and lard. The most common types of empanadas include carne (meat), carne picante (spicy meat), jamon y queso (ham and cheese), and pollo (chicken). Many specialty stores have other empanada fillings such as choclo (corn), jamon y anana (ham and pineapple), champignon (mushroom), verdura(vegetable), and cuatro quesos (four cheese).
