The Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo

The Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo is an association of mothers whose children “disappeared” during the military government.

An ongoing organization, the mothers still gather in the Plaza every Thursday adorned with headscarves embroidered with their missing child’s name to wait for their child to return.

The Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo have founded bookstores, a university, and a library—as well as helping with free education and healthcare for children in need—all dedicated to the remaining disappeared people. The weekly protests occur every Thursday and have become a tourist attraction.
